Don Chairez for the Nevada Supreme Court

Don Chairez is an outstanding attorney in Las Vegas who is now running for the Supreme Court. The election is in August, 2008. I support Don in this race because he has a record of defending the rights of property owners on the issue of Eminent Domain. In Las Vegas this has been abused by the city to confiscate land that was desired by casino interests. Don Chairez was instrumental in getting a measure on the ballot to prohibit such abuses of power by the city government. I have not heard Mr. Chairez comment on Homeowner Association issues, but given his record, I am sure he would not look favorably on abuses that are often involved in Homeowner Associations. Nevada Homeowner Association Issues

P.O. Box 93355, Las Vegas, Nevada 89193

By Robert Holloway

The purpose of this site is to provide information to homeowners who live in homeowner associations in Nevada or who plan to buy a home in an association. Homeowner associations vary a great deal in character and quite often the nature of the association is determined by those who happen to be on the board of directors. It is my impression that the personality types who tend to be involved in HOA boards are often not representative of the membership but rather consists of those who have more authoritarian inclinations or who, for other reasons, want to exert a controlling influence on the lives of their neighbors. The phrase "Boss Thy Neighbor" has been used to describe the work of some associations. I don't mean to imply that all associations are dictatorial. I know that many are not and that there are many associations where the regulation is reasonable so that it is a worthwhile place to live. I also believe that any degree of regulation will never please everyone and that there are some who may balk at even reasonable regulations. So here it is folks, these are the things that I believe are worth knowing about how to survive in a homeowners association. Because the quality of judges in the state can impact homeowner associations, I am going to start off with some comments about Don Chairez who is running for the Nevada Supreme Court.

Political Signs in HOA communities: Nevada Law (NRS Chapter 116) specifically permits political signs in areas controlled by unit owners. Signs can be up to 2 feet by 3 feet. HOA boards are not allowed to ban such signs.
